Astra Huimeng Wang

Wang Huimeng (b. Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, China) received her B.E. in Bio-Medical Engineering from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and M.F.A. in Studio Art from San Francisco Art Institute. Drawing upon research on a systematic body of texts and literary traditions, her practice spans sculpture, installation, performance, video, and the Internet, dealing with issues such as the shifting of cultural identities and Neo-orientalism. 

 

Wang received a MacDowell fellowship in 2020; between 2017 and 2020, she received grants from and held residencies at Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, ACRE, Millay Colony for the Arts, Otis College of Art and Design, and Wilhardt & Naud, among others. Selected exhibitions and performances include those at Make Room Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and Pennsylvania State University. A solo show of Wang Huimeng's work will be opening at Make Room in Spring 2022.
