Born in 1995 in Taichung Taiwan, Li Yi-Shuan is a Taiwanese-Canadian artist whose art
practice includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, and photography. Lee’s works deliver a
dialogue between Eastern and Western ideologies by way of creating a tapestry of odd and surreal narratives.
Initially striking as lighthearted paintings, his works evince experimental audacity and seek to explore the complexity of the human condition. Based upon an interpellation of life experiences and popular culture, Lee’s works reveal the lives of the youth in the current era, while uncovering stories of many struggling to outlive the expectations established by previous generations. Lee currently works from both his Taipei and Toronto studios.
