Lee Yi-Shuan

Born in Taichung Taiwan, Yi-Shuan Lee is a Taiwanese-Canadian artist whose art practice includes paintings, drawings, photography and sculpture making. As a first generation immigrant living in North America, Lee’s works deliver a dialogue between Eastern and Western ideologies. Constructed from his experiences in South East Asia, Lee’s paintings create a tapestry of odd and surreal narratives. Initially striking as lighthearted paintings, his works evince experimental audacity and seek to explore the complexity of human condition. Based upon a process of interpellation of life experiences and popular culture, his works reveal the lives of the youth in the current era, while uncovering stories of many struggling to outlive the expectations established by the previous generations.

Lee received his BFA from OCAD University in 2017. He has since exhibited across Canada, China, Taiwan, France, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, and the United States. Lee currently works from both his Taipei and Toronto studios.
