California-based painter Heather Day (b. 1989, Ewa Beach, Hawaii) creates abstract artworks that layer fields of colour into vibrant, dynamic compositions. She began her Full Stop series in the spring of 2020, embracing artistic practice as a way to process the intense and complicated emotions of pandemic life. Described by Day as ‘mining the tension between convex and concave,’ each artwork in the series operates as a self-contained world of shapes and colours. Simultaneously, the series as a whole collectively marks a new beginning in Day’s art, representing a new visual technique that has become part of her practice.
